Men’s golf ends their game at Saint Mary’s Invitational

CAVALIERS BEACH, California – The Coastal Carolina University men’s golf team scored a 285 brace in Wednesday’s final round of the Saint Mary’s Invitational. Les Chants finished the tournament with a total of 869 (285-299-285) over three days to finish 14th.

Second year Luke Nelson had a career event ending with a score of two under 211. Nelson’s first round score of 69 was the best lap of his career and after shooting a 74 in the second round yesterday, the Raleigh native has surpassed his previous best lap with a 68 in Tuesday’s round final. His career best effort put him in the top 10 with a ninth place finish.

Seth taylor also found the 60s in today’s action shooting a final round 69. He finished the event with a 217 four-way (71-77-69) to tie for 46th.

Gavin Noble tied for 61st after shooting a seven of 220 (72-75-73). Trey crenshaw shot a 75 for four in the last round to finish with a 223 for 10 (73-75-75) and tie for 73rd.

Viktor olund and Holden grigg also played in the event with Olund finishing tied for 98th with a 234 (79-75-80) and Grigg shooting a 236 (79-77-80) to finish tied for 101st.

Oregon made a big push in the final round to overtake Stanford and win on the last hole of the event. Oregon was 19-minus 833 with the Cardinal just one shot behind to 18-minus 834.

San Francisco had the best score of the third round with a round of 10 under and was third at 13 under 839. Nevada (-7,845) and Loyola Marymount (+5,857) were in the top five.

Host Saint Mary’s started the second five with a score of six out of 858, followed by Oregon State (+7,859), BYU (+8,860), Colorado State (+11,863) , with Santa Clara, Washington State and San Diego is tied for 10th at a +12,865.

New Mexico finished ahead of CCU at +13,865 with Long Beach State (+20,872), Fresno State (+20,872), Northern Illinois (+26,878), Seattle (+35,887) and Pacific (+42, 894) completing the field.

With the completion of the Saint Mary’s invitation, the fall portion of the 2021-22 calendar ends for the Chanticleers. CCU will be back at the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate scheduled from February 28 to March 2 at Reflection Bay Golf Club in Henderson, Nevada.
